I am happy and amazed (and a bit embarrassed ) that I am finally learning food portions. I had become a fitness specialist when I was 19 yrs old ( 23 years ago) but the program sadly didn't really go into nutrition. When I was young I could wing it and I was fine with how I ate but 7 years ago my metabolism started to slow down I started to put on the weight. Sadly in the last 7 years I had gained 40 pounds. I had tried changing the types of food I ate and I was exercising and... nothing changed. Until, I started the Maker's Diet and I started to see the foods I was eating and "how much" grains and potatoes I was eating. In phase 2 of the Maker's Diet I now have been able to eat sweet potatoes and more variety of beans in this last week. And in a week and a half I start adding grains and a bit of other foods back to my diet. I now have a reality check in what is a good portion in foods and thought I would pass this on to anyone who wants it. This way you all don't have to go through all the searching I did. [o= I hope it blesses you.
Here is a before picture.
I plan to give a update picture of what I look like in a week and a half.
I am soooooooooo happy to say I now have lost....
Hello, dear friend!!! Thanks for your sweet greeting on my cbox...I'm sorry I've been "MIA" for so long :-(
ReplyDeleteWhat a good post today! (Well, they're ALL good, but a good post for me, anyway!) So simple and yet SO profoundly important. I know that "my metabolism slowed down and the weight came on" phase of life all too well. Believe it or not, I was a gymnast on the high school Michigan State Champion team back in the day! Skinny as a rail, could eat whatever I wanted, and my body was all muscle from the gymnastics. I did floor exercise and vault, primarily. You'd never know it to see me now, but I am 51, so I give myself grace there, LOL!
A coule years ago, I bought FlyLady's "Body Clutter" book. Boy, was that a good one! I learned a lot about myself reading it. I am, without a doubt, an emotional eater and totally full of body clutter! It takes me a while to gear up for a major change like going vegan, or even doing Maker's Diet type stuff...I have to rid my mind and heart of the clutter within, and then I can have the emotional energy to attack the weight. I think I'm on my way...again! I've found things that work and that I am in agreement with all the way...but the effort, living here in the burbs and with the "way too much on my plate" in terms of busyness made it so hard for me to keep up. I have to let go of so much, but much is not in my hands to let go of (like the medical stuff I have to manage, and extended family issues). God will help me, I know. Great to read of your progress and the blessings it is and will be bringing you!
Love you, and miss you, too!

Woo-hoo! Congrats to you, Mary! You continue to inspire me, but I have to say I've certainly not been as diligent about my eating as you've been. I guess I'll need to pray about it... Willpower can be so hard to come by and life can be so busy, but I don't want to create excuses for myself. Sigh. Anyway, I'm happy for you and will pray for your continued success on your diet. :) Blessings, ~Lisa
ReplyDeletenot fair Mary....you are sharing a picture :( I am not ready for a before and after yet!
ReplyDeleteAwesome of you to find this wonderful site...I should be sending the one you requested this weekend!
Love you,
Maria
Oh Maria I am sorry. I needed to have something to motivate myself to keep going and not to stay at this weight. I am very hopeful now that I WILL get to my ideal weight now. I am ex-tactic that my weight is moving downwards and not stagnant.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that this diet plan is working for you. Congrats on loosing 8 pounds. You sound very happy about your progress.
ReplyDeletePortion size is what I'm working on too. I still have not mastered it, and sometimes feel like I never will, but I'm trying. I've been doing the 'serving' size for a while now. My biggest hurdles are casseroles, soups, mixed together kinds of meals. But I'm working on it. I wanted to give you three sites that helped me. They give you ideas of what portion sizes are, like the size of a baseball or CD. There's even a wallet sized one you can print out. Hope they help.

Hi Mary!
ReplyDeleteGood for you in working on losing the weight. My parents bought a Wii for dd for Christmas. I started using it and noticed that my pants were getting loose. That motivated me to purchase a few things for the Wii to help me work out more. In 6 months, I've lost just shy of 20 pounds. I was in a 2xl, but am now wearing mediums in my pants and large in my tops. I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER!
Having the Wii Fit, which has a daily body test, has motivated me to use more restraint with my eating in the evenings. It really does show up the next day if you eat late or snack throughout the evening on the wrong types of foods.
I read the Maker's Diet. I didn't implement it because so much of it would require a lot more $ -- something we are short on since I am the breadwinner in the family. It was an interesting read though.
I think this one thing is key. I once lost 30# just by only eating regular portions! I am trying to do this again and praying for help along the way. I don't need as much food as I think I do!
