Oh Mary! That was my father's favorite hymn, and it was also his own father's favorite. We had the congregation sing it as we walked out from his HOME going service. I know folks expected to see tears on his family as we walked out, and they saw them. But it was a special kind of tear because we were all singing it as we walked and it gave us a great joy.
All I could picture in my head as I sang were his big old clod hoppers (size 14 shoes...) walking in that sunlight, straight away into the face of God. Why I pictured dad wearing his shoes in heaven, I do not know, but I did.
Since my once very athletic dad had been confined to a wheelchair the last days of his life, the fact that he was truly walking in sonshine made it all the more special.
Thanks for sharing this, Mary! Have a blessed week!
ReplyDeleteAh, takes me back to my young days in Maryland & Virginia when I attended church with my neighbors!
