My New Kitchen Helper

It is that time of year again and we are starting the apple harvest. The first apples to be harvested on our homestead is the Transparent apple. It is a family tradition of picking the these apples and making apple sauce ( go here if you want to know how to ) out of them.

Yellow Transparent Apple

But this year I have a new helper. Ohhh what a good helper this little guy is. I have been making apple sauce for many a year and this has to be the easiest year yet because of my Kitchen Aide saucer attachment. Every year after my craft sales we invest in something to make homemaking easier or something for my crafts. Last year we invested in the saucing attachment and it was worth every penny. I have struggled with tendinitis for years and cranking apple sauce through a food mill has been hard for me. But with this I can sauce tons and it won't hurt my wrist a bit. Thank you Lord.

Whats next on the agenda? Crab apple jelly.

  2. Your apple sauce looks great, and it looks like the saucer attachment does a fine job of crushing those apples. :)

I didn't know you had tendinitis though, ugh! I'm sorry to hear that.

    Have a blessed day! :)

  4. What a great attachment! I'd be happy just to have a kitchaid mixer instead of my knock off.

I love home made applesauce. If I had that, I would make ton.

  5. Mary, this looks heavenly, and what a blessing the new sauce attachment must be. I have begun making my own yogurt with a new yogurt maker as my treat. It has been well worth it. In looking at your festival, it looks like you all had a grand time. Is this where you sold your wares?

  6. Mary, this applesauce looks heavenly, what a blessing this sauce attachment must be. I, too, am in a season of DIY with a yogurt maker that I'm thoroughly enjoying.

  7. You are officially amazing. Half our family will be apple-picking on Saturday. Hopefully life will slow down enough for me to make applesauce, apple slices, etc. and can everything! I'm drooling just thinking about it.

  8. Oh my mother had one of those...I have the Kitchen Aid, but not the attachment.

We are hearing we will have a shortage of apples this year due to the harsh weather this year...enjoy yours!!!

  9. Well, that's a handy little gadget to have. I usually make apple butter but not this year. No apples available because of our drought conditions. I wish we had fruit trees on our place. We've been intending to plant some but never have.

    Grace & Peace

  10. Oh aren't gadgets that make life easier the best fun?
The applesause looks mouth watering GREAT!
I just moved in front of 200 acres of apple orchards, and the picking is done, and there are apples that I will be allowed to glean!!
    I'm sooo excited!!

  11. Gotta love the Kitchen Aid! Congrats to you, Mary, on your craft sales and the purchase of your new kitchen tool! I, too, suffer from a form of tendonitis along with carpel tunnel (no fun), so I sympathize with you and understand how incredibly nice it is to acquire gadgets that make our work easier! BTW, you are an inspiration with how busy you keep yourself working with your hands! Many blessings, ~Lisa

  12. Oh! I will have to look into getting one of those attachments for my kitchen aid!

I have a bag of transparents that were given to me. They have started to do their thing where they turn a little brown and soft on the inside. Would you still make apple sauce from them?

  13. about your question on the transparent apples... I would cut off any bad parts and the core and stem and try it. I can't see why not. Make some and taste it and see if you like it. [o=

Let me know how it went. [o=

  14. Lisa,

    Thank you but I have to admit I am pushing myself right now and dreaming to slow down and just...knit. The snow will fly one day soon and then I can hibernate. [o;

    Mrs. G and Janette,

I know what you mean by a shortage of apples. Only a few of our apple trees produced and the ones that did were not as much as usual for sure. Hope next year is better!

  15. Belinda,

Yes that is one of the places that I sell my wares. I have one more craft fair Nov. 18th and 19th and I hope to make my candles and beaded work available on my blog soon.

    Christine,

Thank you for your SWEET words. I cherish them when I feel oh so tired. Right now I am putting one foot in front of the other and soon I will be walking across the floor.

Ohh PS: Janette and Mrs. G,

I usually can 40 to 70 quarts of apple sauce and this year I will be blessed to get 25-30 Lord willing. Yes, it is a low year indeed.

    Blessings<><

  16. Good morning Mary! I went through all the transparents. It took a little more work to cut them up and clean out the bad spots. I made applesauce from what was left and it turned out really nice. I canned it and ended up with 5 pints.

  17. That applesauce will taste sooooo good this winter! you'll set down your KNITTING NEEDLES and sprinkle some cinnamon on a dish of sauce and relish every sweet bite...then you'll KNIT ON!

    Love you!
