The Get Dressed Challenge Days 4, 5, 6

I really appreciated this video. ( found over at Like A Warm Cup of Coffee) I am going through a period that I have not felt very good at how I let my body go. But in the last year as I have cried out to the Lord at different times and He has been healing my body and has pointed me in the right direction. He has also been showing me ways to get it where I need it to be, will be sharing more in the near future.

(Can’t see the video? Click here.)

Day 4 – Can We All Just Take a Moment of Silence for Showers?( click on the title to read Sarah Mae's original post)

I have for years been good at getting dressed as soon as I get up because of the inspiration of flylady.net. But... I was very convicted on this one and I am going to be scheduling my showers better. ((blush)) My slack started with trying not to wash my hair too much and strip it of it's oils but then it grew into laziness. As I said I feel convicted and will be making some changes.

Day 5 – An Eager Mindset

This was another one that I felt a "ouch" of conviction on. I felt convicted on needing to be more purpose minded in my homeschooling.

This quote from Sarah Mae got me between the eyes.

"I have to prepare my mind the night before for battle the next day. And friends, it is a battle. It’s a battle to get up, to get dressed, and to push down my selfish self into Christ so that I can offer my family (and myself) a peaceful, compassionate, humble, loving spirit…not to mention all the physical tasks that must be done to keep my domain from imploding. As a homeschooling mama, I have an extra duty to prepare my brain and “gird my loins” so that I can feed my children’s brains and hearts with good and true knowledge. I also want to teach them to be self-disciplined.

“She girds herself with strength And makes her arms strong.” Proverbs 31:17"

She has such a good list of how to prepare to have the right mindset in the post... A Eager Mindset.

“And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” Colossians 3:14

I really pray starting Monday , well actually Sunday night, that I can sit down and prepare ahead for my coming day and have a eager mindset for God's glory.

Day 6 – When Body is Weary

There is such a fine balance of taking care of ourselves for our family, the Lord, for ourselves. And then at the same time rest in that we are beautiful and know who we are because of Jesus, and walk in that freedom.

I really like when Sarah Mae said...

"Not because the shoes or the make-up or the pretty clothes make you beautiful, but because you enjoy them! I want to feel beautiful as a woman, and I like enjoying an adornment or two, but my identity is locked in Christ, and if I should lose all my outside “beauty” that’s okay, because I can never lose my beautiful, redeemed soul. And if you know Him, your soul is beautiful and redeemed as well, and it’s sealed for Him for eternity."

So much to take in, digest, and think about.

  1. This is good stuff, Mary -- keep it coming!

I love Sarah Mae's words: "I also want to teach them to be self-disciplined."

It is interesting to consider how our habits will become those of our children; if I am not self-disciplined, how will be children be (and how can I expect them to be?). If I have a house full of unfinished projects I am teaching my children that follow-through doesn't matter. OUCH.

Thanks, thanks, thanks for sharing these wise, wise words.

Blessings to you and yours!! ~Lisa

  2. I'm so happy for you that you are feeling encouraged and strengthened in an area in which you struggle so! Isn't it wonderful when the Lord feeds us so?

Many blessings on your weekend, my friend!

  3. just watched the video....I'm not sure what I think. Looking "cute" and "attractive" is something we shouldn't focus on. I personally think that the more we grow in godliness the less we desire "cute" and the more true "beauty" radiates from us. Not sure if that makes sense....

The more I've asked God to show me my beauty it seems that area of my life (clothes, accessories, make up, etc) has gotten way more "simple."

I think my husband desires me more now then ever before....and one other thought....I think the amish wear purple linens too :)

  5. Oh Mary, I can so relate to you! (Hair stuff...hmmmm, haven't many of us been there?!?) I think that the older our homeschooled kids get, the more important it becomes that we mamas are "in the fight" with them...when they're little, maybe we're not so creative, but they can learn something just by snuggling with us. But when they're in high school, snuggling doesn't teach biology and algebra too well, LOL! I am so tired, so often, but the stakes are high with these senior-high'ers, so I ask for strength through Christ for the tasks, and then praise Him for every ounce of energy He provides.

    Blessings and {{{HUGS}}},

  6. That was a good video. I liked what she said about balance. I think that's really the key. If our looks become our sole focus, we've missed the mark. If our desire is to be the best we can be and be something, quite frankly, that is a delight to the man God gave to us, I think it's wonderful.

I have been trying to comment on your past several posts, but either my end or something keeps messing up. I'm trying again.

I loved the Mary Janes in the last post.

I have been doing my own version of this and following your thoughts since you started. I have the hair issue too where I don't want to over wash it.

Here's my biggest issue: My husband is gone during most of the week. When he isn't home and I'm not going anywhere, I get really lazy about hair and makeup.

Trying to improve. But for me, the weekends are the MOST important time, especially when he walks in the door.

Great series, Mary. I am enjoying it.

    Now, pleasepleaseplease let this post...

  7. I am really enjoying reading everyone's comments, videos and the links to these post. They make me crack up in some respects because I am so at the same place as everyone else on some days -- particularly when I am pregnant!

  8. The heart's motives are always the bottom line. And I love what she says about preparing for the battle before hand. Good stuff.

  9. Ditto Jenn. Exactly what I was thinking.

  10. Yes, totally identifying with Day 5. Most days I'm tired before that day has even started, but she has some great points in there. I'm going to write out the scripture passage and hang it on my mirror.

    Blessings!
